Rhema Grace September 2015

Deoxyribonucleic acid.  Commonly known as DNA.  When we hear the initials DNA, there could be a couple different things that enter our minds.  One would be how it is used to identify those who have committed criminal acts and the law enforcement agency is having difficulty in discovering who is innocent and who is guilty.  Because of the nature of DNA, saliva on a drinking glass or a spot of blood on the carpet can decisively solve the identification of the one who committed the crime.  Another popular way DNA is used is in paternity tests and discovering who is truly the father of a child.  It is interesting that a test such as that should ever have to take place, but in the world in which we live in today, it has been useful.

DNA is advantageous in many ways.  The facts and principles of DNA are astounding.  It was introduced to the world through James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953 as they had spent much time and effort in studying what is hidden in every cell of the human body.  It is beyond comprehension that within every one of our cells is a three billion letter code representing four different chemicals that are sequenced such that every person can be uniquely identified.  I could share more information and more words such as, chromosomes, genomes and molecules, but the knowledge is too great to comprehend.  In this great knowledge, there have been some who attempted to prove the theory of the big bang and evolution; but in actuality, DNA proves unequivocally that there is, in fact, a Divine Creator.

David knew that there was a Creator when he wrote Psalms 139:13-16.  The Amplified Translation clearly states this fact: “For You God did form me in my inward parts.  You knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I will confess and praise You for You are Fearful and Wonderful and for the wonder of my birth!  Wonderful are Your works and that my inner self knows right well.  My substance, my frame, was not hidden from You when I was being formed in secret and intricately and curiously wrought as if embroidered with various colors in the depths of the earth.  Your eyes saw my unformed substance and in Your book all the days of my life were written before they even took shape.”

The word substance in Verse 15 carries a slightly different meaning than in Verse 16.  Verse 15 refers to the body of a fetus when the arms, legs, organs are already formed and there is a heartbeat.  The word substance in Verse 16 refers to and is literally defined as an embryo.  Undoubtedly life begins at conception.  And the end of Verse 16, along with what God spoke to the prophet Jeremiah, points out that God knows us even before we were conceived. In Jeremiah 1:5, God says to him, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.”

It is undeniably appalling what is taking place in our nation today and what has been taking place through Planned Parenthood and other organizations as they not only take the life of living babies, but sell body parts to gain profit.  It is a travesty and a tragedy that leaders in our government and society endorse such immoral activity.  It is a sad day in a nation when its people are more concerned about deflated footballs than murdering innocent little living human beings that God has created.  Let us pray that this ungodly activity ceases and life will be valued once again.  Let us be the Church that God speaks of in                      2nd Chronicles 7:14.  I believe God’s mercy can be poured out upon every person that has had anything to do with abortion, and He will heal those who approach Him with a heart of repentance.  I believe He can still heal our nation and its people if we will humble ourselves and pray and seek His face and turn from our wicked ways.

Every child at conception has a physical DNA.  The moment the first cell is formed in the womb, the miracle of multiplication takes place as one cell after another forms, and within each cell is a unique DNA.  What a miracle it is as God’s creative work takes place physically in a mother’s womb.

But there is another DNA that exists as well.  A spiritual DNA.  2nd Peter 1:3,4, “According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that has called us to glory and virtue.  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises that by these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

I would like to first draw our attention to the words “partakers of His Divine Nature.”  Every person ever born has been given the Divine Nature of Almighty God.  It is our spiritual DNA.  God has created us to have a body, soul, and spirit (Genesis 2:7).  At conception our spirit is connected with God.  When we are born in this world, we carry the DNA of God.

I believe that babies and innocent children that are taken from this earth are immediately taken to Heaven. When David lost his child to death, he stated that he would one day see the child again.  My own mother conceived in her womb 4 other children on this earth that were removed from this earth quickly, and I can confidently say that my dad, who has entered into glory, is living with his children right now.  Until a child has reached the age of accountability and a clear understanding of the Gospel, they contain the pure DNA of God within them.

Before I explain how important it is to understand the stewardship of God’s DNA within us, let’s go back to the beginning.  In Genesis 1:26, God said, “Let Us make man in Our image and after Our likeness.”  The word image refers to reflection and the word likeness refers to resemblance.  When I discovered that I immediately heard a voice within me ask, “How are you doing with that?  What does your reflection look like in the spiritual mirror?  Are you showing any resemblance whatsoever of God?”  Yes, it was quite sobering to hear those questions, but not surprising as I have been pondering on the refining fire of Holy Spirit quite often lately.  We are, in fact, created in the image and likeness of God Himself.  Every cell of our being has His DNA within it.  Whatever I see in the spiritual mirror is who I am.  Mirrors don’t lie.

James 1:21-24 clearly explains the spiritual mirror into which we look.  “So get rid of all uncleanness and the rampant outgrowth of wickedness and in a humble, gentle and modest spirit, receive and welcome the Word which implanted and rooted in your hearts contains the power to save your souls.  But be doers of the Word, obey the message and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth.  For if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his own face in the mirror.  For he thoughtfully observes himself and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like.  But he who looks carefully into the faultless law of liberty and is faithful to it and perseveres looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets, but an active doer who obeys, he shall be blessed in his doing.”

I will be the first to admit to you there are mornings when I get out of bed and I do not look forward to looking into a mirror at the unshaven, wrinkled, aged face that I see.  But if I attempt to shave my face without looking into a mirror, it will be a dangerous thing.  There are times my flesh will rise up against me when my spirit says it is time to look at the mirror of the Word, but it is necessary to remain clean and to reflect the image of God.

Verse 21 points out that the cleansing of my soul is a process.  If I do not look into the spiritual mirror daily, I will eventually look and be unkempt spiritually.  2nd Corinthians 3:18 clarifies the value of the spiritual mirror.  “But we all, with an open and unveiled face, continue to look into the Word of God as a mirror of the glory of the Lord and we are constantly changed and transformed into His very own image from one glory to another by the Spirit of the Lord.”  An unveiled face means openly and honestly surrendering who I really am and what I really look like to God and His Word, and allowing Holy Spirit to do His work to make me in the image and likeness of Christ.  Remember 2nd Peter 1:4, we are partakers of His Divine Nature.  We have His DNA within every fiber of our being.

When a baby is born, it is often said by those who look at the baby that it looks like Dad or Mom.  Let us desire that spiritually as well.  I want people to say I look like Abba Father.  Or he is a splitting image of his Brother, Jesus.  If anyone would ever do a spiritual paternity test on me, let it reveal that I am an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ.

The end of 2nd Corinthians 4:4 says the Light of the glorious Gospel, Christ Himself, will shine on us and make us into the image and likeness of Him. The brighter the light, the more imperfections will be revealed, but His grace always accompanies His Light.  In fact, it is One and the Same.  Verse 6 says the Light will shine deep into our hearts; then Verse 7 gives a clear explanation of the spiritual DNA within us.  “But we have this Treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us.”  We have God’s spiritual DNA, Holy Spirit, God Himself, in these earthly vessels called bodies, so that God’s divine power would cause us to live life in godliness, glory and virtue.   He has given us His Divine Power.  He has caused us to be partakers of His Divine Nature.  His DNA is within us and through Holy Spirit, we have the power to live right, act right, do right and speak right.  Yes, it is a daily walk.  It is a daily look into the mirror of His Word.  But it will lead us to live a life as a light in a dark world.  His Divine Nature within us allows us to escape the corruption of the world and live as citizens of His Kingdom.

Every child that is born not only has the DNA of their parents, but they have their own individual DNA as well.  You are unique.  There never has been nor never will be another human being like you.  You have your own fingerprint.  You have your own God-given DNA within each cell of your body.  There is nothing you can do to change your physical DNA.  Some people today are attempting to change their sexual orientation, but God has given them their physical DNA, and there is no mind-set or surgery that will change who God made them to be.  The attempts to change who God made them to be will only bring heartache and confusion.  Yes, on the outside we see outward appearances of joy and satisfaction, but deep within their cells there is misery and despair.  People do not want to admit they are wrong even though inside they know they are.  Repentance is humbling.  But it is a fact that God has asked every person ever born to be satisfied only by partaking of His Divine Nature, Holy Spirit Himself.  If our spirit is not connected to Holy Spirit, there will never be any satisfaction.  Never.

Every baby is given spiritual DNA through the spirit God has given them.  I believe that every baby and child that has passed away from this earth that has not yet had the mental comprehension to understand the clear Gospel message is now with a loving and gracious God. There is an age of accountability that is clearly defined only by Holy Spirit Himself in the life of every individual.  When that moment comes into the life of a person, they have no doubt that they have been given a choice to believe in the clear message that they need a Saviour and His Name is Jesus Christ.  The decision to make Him Lord of their life is actually a decision to keep them Lord of their life and to retain the Divine Nature they have had since their birth.

Let me explain it this way. I have my natural father’s DNA within me.  I inherited the sir name of Kidwell.  But I have the option of changing my last name.  I can legally change my last name by completing a petition, filing it in court, paying a fee, attending a hearing and publishing publicly that my last name has been changed.  We often see some who have changed their religious beliefs and have changed their name.  A popular one would be Cassius Clay changing his name to Muhammad Ali.  In essence, if I would change my name I would be refusing it and recounting that I am in the Kidwell family.  I would lose all the benefits that come with that name including any inheritance. When a person comes to an understanding that they need a Saviour and they hear the Gospel message that Jesus is the Saviour, they become accountable for their own spiritual DNA.  If they refuse Christ, they refuse their spiritual inheritance.  Salvation from sin is not applied to their life, for salvation is only found in the blood of Jesus shed on the cross.  Refusing Christ is refusing eternal life.  The treasure in their earthly vessel is forfeited.  It becomes impossible to live in the image and likeness of God.  The choice to refuse Christ as Lord is a choice to change their DNA from the Divine Nature of Almighty to the Death Nature of Adam.  The difference in these DNA’s is seen in 1st Corinthians 15:21,22,45-49.  “For since by man came death (Adam), by man came also the resurrection (Jesus).  For as in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive. And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul.  The last Adam was made a quickening spirit.  Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural (Adam), and afterward that which is spiritual (Jesus).  The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second Man is the Lord from Heaven.  As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy, and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.  As we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.”  Adam represents the death nature of man.  Jesus represents the Divine Nature of God.  Adam represents death.  Jesus represents Life.  Read these scriptures slowly and meditate on the definitive differences between the two DNA’s. Romans 8:1-17 also explain the clear differences between the DNA of life and the DNA of death.

Verse 57 sums up the  comparison between the DNA of life and the DNA of death.  “Thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Thanks be to Jesus for providing a way that we can keep our spiritual DNA and our spiritual inheritance of eternal life.  Death has been swallowed up in victory.  For those who struggle with your self worth and identity, you need struggle no more when you understand the spiritual DNA of Almighty God is within you.  Oh how marvelous the creation of our bodies and the discovery of genetic DNA in every cell. Even more wonderful is that we are partakers of the Divine Nature of Almighty God.  Let us rejoice that Holy Spirit gives us witness that we are the sons and daughters of God.  Thanks be to God Who has given us the victory through Jesus Christ our Lord!
